We can't get rid of the stupid people who want to hold things back and ultimately undermine our own chances of survival, but we can try to move on without them. Maybe we will succeed, and maybe we won't, but it seems extremely stupid to not try.
I believe I read a scientific article somewhere that stated even if we were to do everything we possibly can to survive, it will not accomplish anything of major significance. At this point, we've screwed ourselves to the point of no return.
I have no idea what article you're referring to, but it sounds like complete bullshit.
There is no doubt that some of the harm we done is irreversible (extinctions of taxa) and some of it may even be irreparable (long-lasting ecosystem damage), but that doesn't mean our extinction is now inevitable in the immediate or near future. Our species can't survive forever, but that doesn't give us a valid excuse to throw our hands up and quit. "Fuck it, someone wrote an article saying we are screwed, so let's just go with it."
