A woman can only be impregnated by one man, and that will take quite a long time. A man can impregnate multiple women at a time and father their children so for evolutionary reasons it might make more sense for them to be sexually attached to more than one female at a time.
There are statistically significant averages that in all likelihood do ultimately have an evolutionary basis but at the very least in the post-prehistoric 'post-modern' and 'civilized' world of condoms, computers and crayons that we live in... there's definitely a ton of variety that deviates from the statistical averages, too.
