This little bit of nonsense was explicitly designed as propaganda in service of consequence free bigotry. Why do you find it insulting to consider that it might have influenced your opinion?
Dogma of the right has a different term, but it amounts to much the same thing. I think "right-wing nutjob" works, or "the Party of Stupid" if you want to talk about the political party.
