You're worried about genetic pollution as a result of production? So am I. It's one thing to worry, another to recommend that all the factories close their doors.
Genes do drift, not incredibly often, but they do. When they do, then what? Sterility. Any production methodology will have associated risks. These genes are only one part of BPM that include controlling pollen drift with barriers, minimum distances between strains..the list goes on and on.
At the end of the day, if I have to entirely exterminate some type of daisy somewhere to keep food on peoples tables, I'm gonna have to side with team us.

Now why do we need to know this stuff? Well, we've always had to deal with this. If we couldn't we would not have been able to breed our current crops.
Another thing that may have gone unconsidered here is the relatively small number of families involved in food production. It's alot easier to keep the pigs from breeding when you put them into a tank with whales.
