Whereupon I'll counter with the Atheist's Wager, which boils down to "why not live your life the best you can as though there are no gods? If none exist, you lose nothing and made your world a better place. If some benevolent gods exist, you will surely be rewarded. And if the gods are not benevolent, the game is rigged before you start and they're going to get you no matter what you do."

Seems to me like a damn decent place to start.
