As a society there's still a big taboo on people having sex before marriage, or living with each other, or being in same sex couples, or anything out of the normal idea of two opposite sex virgins getting married for life. And they wonder why we have problems with spouses cheating on each other because they aren't satisfied sexually.
If that's what you mean by open sexual relationships then I completely agree. I thought you meant open in the way that people refer to relationships where it's agreed they can sleep with other people. That said, I've never encountered the sex before marriage thing as a taboo outside of a rare few super religious people in my life.
