Because, for whatever reason, said crackpots apparently need their god to be real, and our lack of belief somehow casts aspersions on their beliefs. Therefore, they feel a sacred obligation to both prove us wrong and enroll us in their particular flavour of belief. *shrug*
A spirituality that can be emotionally impugned by the very existence of contrary views is, IMO, not worth the neurons it's imprinted on.
