Do a little research in these forums and you'll find far more accurate summaries.

RE: Argument from contingency
Quote:The Argument from Contingency
(1) Everything that exists contingently has a reason for its existence.
(2) The universe exists contingently.
Therefore:
(3) The universe has a reason for its existence.
(4) If the universe has a reason for its existence then that reason is God.
Therefore:
(5) God exists.

The argument fails because there's no evidence that the reason is God.

Quote:(1) Everything that exists contingently has a reason for its existence.
I accept this premise.

Quote:(2) The universe exists contingently.

It depends what you mean by universe. But for sake of argument, I'll accept it.

Quote:Therefore:
(3) The universe has a reason for its existence.

I accept this.

Quote:(4) If the universe has a reason for its existence then that reason is God.

Does not follow and is yet to be demonstrated. Conclusion rejected.

Quote:Therefore:
(5) God exists.

Does not follow from (4) because (4) was rejected.

Agreed, the conclusion didn't follow.

I mean, it's hilarious really... because the God part is the part they are supposed to be proving and they just start from multiple non-controversial premises and then insert God into the conclusions at the end lol.

It's better comedy than argumentation.

I don't even get the term reason for its existence  in terms of the universe . Huh

I have a lot more to say about this argument; I’m just too drunk to articulate it at the moment. 😝
