I quite like dogs (although we don't have one at the moment).
Smartest dog I ever knew was a border collie called Trixie. She was one of six farm dogs we had when I was a kid. During Sunday dinners, she would stand by one of the outbuildings (out of sight of the house) and bark like mad as if something was wrong. When we ran out to see what the trouble was, she would dash in through the door we'd left open, snag food off the table, and run out across the fields like a rocket.
