Sure, when a significant error occurs, the "cure" is death. It happens with some regularity. Disease, deformity, unviability. To some extent, those genetic lines prone to this sort of thing die off without reproducing..reducing their representation in the gene pool.

There's a not-so-subtle difference between a programmer and a creator, but if you wanted to insist that there was a programmer..sure...the environment is one of them. The limits of viable genetic divergence is another. Here, again, I think that this isn't exactly what you have in mind?
