Acute physical pain: a third-degree a/c separation in my right shoulder, playing squadron football in the Air Force. It was 90 minutes before I got my first painkillers, and by that time my shoulder felt like a solid sheet of fire.
Chronic physical pain: my hip. I have osteonecrosis in my right hip, and the pain is constant and moderate. It spikes radically when I stumble, trip, or stand up or sit down using poor form. It usually feels like a really big toothache buried in my pelvis.
Emotional pain: when my bud JR killed himself shortly after his elder brother's death. Our families were very close over the years and while we knew Coach was dying from liver failure, JR's suicide blindsided us. It broke my spirit for quite a while, and changed me forever in a couple of ways.
