King David had the morals of a cockroach and is a despicable character.

What is the purpose of such a character in the fairy tale? When he was young he showed a lot of promise. By the time he was ready to croak he had degenerated into a pile of stinky garbage with no redeeming qualities. His purpose in the fairy tale seems to be to show that you can become corrupted with fame and fortune and lose your salvation. He's an example of what not to do.
