Though I'm obviously pleased that the Vikings advance to play the Eagles, I can't help but feel a little dirty about this one. Sure, a win is a win. But I hate to see a season end like that for any team. I am surrounded at work by Saints fans, and we ended the work week with a lot of friendly trash talking, but I don't have the heart to gloat today. I think so many years of gruesome Vikings-related disappointments have given me a sliver of compassion for anyone not named Packers or Cowboys.
BTW, I agree with your take on that missed tackle. He was definitely trying to take an angle to prevent the clock stopping. Right thought but the lousiest execution imaginable. They teach kids at the pee-wee level to keep their heads up and see the target.
Poor bastard. Joining Norwood and other notorious goats in sports history wasn't on his mind when he woke up yesterday. Now it's all he's going to be known for.
I didn't see anything "dirty" about that last play. Saints secondary simply blew it. They should have had their corners and safety back off and force a short pass and contain it. Not the Vikings fault the guy fell down. If you want to really point blame the Saints coach made a bad call. If they had created a buffer one missed tackle would not have mattered if the secondary had been in better coverage.
But I do agree, especially when it is your team that loses like that it sucks. Skins have ended games just like that too and lose. It happens to every team at some point over seasons and decades.
