It seems American schooling misses quite a few bits out that most countries get as standard. I don't know why they'd do that.
They don't leave it out; at least in my education it wasn't. But some of the "special" folks didn't get it, and in fact, in those days they were incarcerated [/sarcasm] so that they didn't offend the regular folks, I guess. Mainstreaming of Down's Syndrome people started in the '70s, IIRC. Better than leaving them in a home, when they can actually do things and be productive members of society. There's another segment of the US population who, even in my day (I graduated High School in 1970) just weren't into the education scene, and sat in the back of the classroom and did whatever it was they did, instead of paying attention to the lessons.
