I'm actually not seeing any impediments to the Dems in congress launching a mall repurposing bill with some incentives. Wouldn't take much 'pub buy in to have a win-win on this issue. Lordy knows enough neighborhoods and city areas are being blighted with dead malls. Some kind of national TIF bill (or something more appropriate) might be just the ticket.
How many malls owned by 'pubs after all, and maintaining their value as assets would seem to be a no brainer to their constituency, and the Dems would be on board for facilities for drug rehab, elders/hospice care, parolee reintroduction/halfway houses. And at last, such facilities could be spacious and airy and open, I'd bet they work better. Hell, malls surrounded by vast parking lots, add some green spaces around them and the Greenies and NIMBYs would be on board too.
Why isn't this a thing already ??
The same reasons why dems caved into Trump. We need to start electing people that have our interests in mind because the problem in the U.S. is the ever-growing wealth inequality nothing will change and the poor as result still gets fucked literally. The bright side of this is it's 2018 there are people who are primarying those people out of power so that idea is great i would vote for someone would do that. I agree that and the amount of money that this country makes we can afford to have single payer, free college, and basic income that would go the poor out of their current situation back into the middle class. That and we need to invest in solar... and green energy before it really gets too late and we start having wars over water.
