1) How do you deal with the idea of ceasing to exist after death - or doesn't it bother you?
The idea that I will cease to exist when I die does not bother me. From my perspective of having studied religion and how primitive minds approached the world around them, it appears as though the concept of an afterlife was imagined and created merely to aid in alleviating the fear of death. By imagining that something exists after death, an irrational fear subsides.
2) How do you explain what could be considered evidence of intelligent design (such as DNA) - or the statistical improbability we could have happened by random occurrence.
I do not comprehend how DNA is considered a rational extension of intelligent design, not that I place any stock in I.D. to begin with.
Another is - Can you explain why you became an atheist?
I have extensively explained it before, but I am pressed for time at the moment. I am certain the post is on this forum somewhere. For the moment, however, I will make it brief: through critical thinking and logical interpretation of religious concepts, I was able to reasonably shed ignorance related to such unrealistic notions. It was as though I was finally awake and understood the world, the real world, for what it was as opposed to the imagined one created by religious delusion. Having read the agnostic works of Robert Green Ingersoll certainly helped me to get where I currently am, as well.
