Here's another great human.
Norman Borlaug. Called "the man who saved a billion lives".
His research in agriculture has saved countless lives. He won the Nobel in 1970.
Little known fact, the Nobel prize winner who saved the most lives with his Nobel prize winning work is probably Friz Haber, the German chemist who invented chemical fertizers that vastly boosted the agricultural productivity of the world, and on which half of the world today relies to not starve.
Whether he is a great human being is harder to say. He also developed the first chemical weapons and led German chemical warfare efforts during WWI. Ironically he also invented Zyklon A, the agent the Nazis used for genocide via gas chamber, and he was run out of Germany by the Nazis because he was Jewish.
Not to derail my own thread, but I have read that the Nazis got their idea of the gas chambers from the State of California switching their method of execution from hanging to the gas chamber, as it was supposed to be more humane.
