Well, while it was intended to be a step in a more ''profitable'' direction for government ''Don't ask, don't tell', has been the norm for most of North American history when it comes to realities and behaviors that Christianity would like to sweep under the carpet. Sexual assault, general violence and brutality, human sacrifice both abstract and material, and renouncement and enslavement of self and others are presented in the Bible as commendable behaviors. By maintaining silence and assuming all good people are sinners, some sense of mutual protection is kept in place so that people continue to profit from their positions of power in the larger machine of society. It's sickening, but at least it is heartening to finally see some winds of change within my lifetime.
