Each morning at 6am, I, or the other manager, would drive around the block. We would write down what the nearest three gas stations were selling gas at. Then we would post our prices 5 cents lower. The corporation that owned the convenience market purchased a million gallons at a time from Texaco. Did not matter whether they sold above or below the purchase price. Gas was just a draw to get you to also purchase fountain drinks, cigarettes, beer, hot dogs, etc. All of which had huge profit margins.
