I'm getting the impression that you're one of those guys who thinks "it's not what it looks like, I swear" has ever been a compelling argument. 
So, here's a related question. If you didn't have a giant jesus shaped blockage in your head that prevented you from seeing things for what they are..would that passage strike you as a deal breaker? Would you peace right the fuck out of a religion that maintained that a god told his chosen people to invade some other tribes land, annihilate them, and steal their pretty young daughters? Additionally, if this were a deal breaking sort of thing for you..what would you say to some other religious person who simply conceeded that it is exactly what it looks like, but that it was gods will, so, good..qed?
