Nice people yes, but that is why I stopped attending. Most of them liberals and very full of empathy, but I just could not get past the old mythology and superstition. Very diverse group too. We had members from every major religion you could think of.
One of there members was a WW2 vet who served in Europe, he was an atheist then and died an atheist. Another black guy, also an atheist served in Nam. He was an atheist then. But one day after a service, he divulged to me that he had once had a heart attack, and that didn't make him have a sudden conversion.
Theists cannot wrap their head around the fact that atheists do not need their clubs or deities to do good and be good and feel love and joy. And yes we can get along with theists too. I wouldn't say all, but there certainly are many atheists can get along with. Conservatism in any religion holds back progress.
