We just discussed this in my philosophy class. It stemmed from the question as to whether we change or not. Am I the same person I was years or even minutes ago? Not really, Im older, more knowledgable etc. But I am still me.

So then... the table is still the six trees it was made from?

And also the seed and animal guts it was before it became the tree that was cut into various piece and stuck into different tables?

And then isn't it also it's parent's parent's parent's parent? After all, it contains bits from most of its parents to this day

Simply: your 'philosophy class' doesn't have a fucking clue what it is on about. And it shouldn't suggest it is any sort of authority on identity while its understanding of the subject is bullshit
