I think the point is that a nice Muslim would (hopefully) reject the idea of marrying children, whatever the Quran had to say about it.

The alternative is much more scary, that someone would base their morality on the Quran, whatever it said.

What actually happens is that Muslims convince themselves they are basing their morality on the Quran, while they're really just interpreting it in such a way that it happens to fit in with their own morality. This is the same with every religion of course.
