IDK if I'd go so far as to say there's an evolutionary benefit. Seems more like a case of a misfire..perhaps equating youth with fertility..like we do, but in a way that most don't.
I guess there would be an advantage to being the first through the gates..as it were, considering it in complete isolation. Not sure how it all pans out when daddy beats your head in with a rock..but that would be a later development, I guess. meh.
