People have to want to be nice in a genuine way. If they are doing it to gain favor, it isn't sincere. If they are doing it because they think they'll get to sit with the popular kids at the lunch table, that's desperate.
Shelly is a wonderful person, as is Tibs. So don't let either of them fool you.
