There was no animal death up to then. The first happened in Gen 3:21. Up to that Adam and Eve were vegetarians. Explicitly stated in Gen 2:16. And before you claim that Adam could have been eating animals as well, god had not yet created them at that point.

How could he know it was wrong? He hadn't learned good from evil yet? Why did god intentionally place the tree there in the full knowledge that the serpent would turn up and Adam and eve would eat from the tree? According to you god knew it in advance. There was nothing Adam or eve could do about it? That is not "free will".
