Government seems to do its worst when it is purchased by rich fucks.

That’s because the most basic interest of the wealthy is to ensure they keep as much of their wealth and privilege as they can even if it has to be done by squelching long term growth, because their ability to weather long term lack of economic opportunity is secured existing wealth.

The most basic interests of most of the population is the opposite because continued long term growth the basis of much of their assurance of being able to continue to eat, have roof over their heads and their children live a tolerable existence.

It;s useful to point out that..at no point, has noko ever demonstrated that they could deliver a warhead to us soil.  

Scrotus sold the store for a vague non promise to stop making weapons that were not yet a threat.  If I were a betting man....I;d bet that noko uses this next chunk of time to fix that last nagging issue of delivery.

They’ve demonstrated a rocket that clearly had the capability to deliver a reasonable payload to the US.  That was the one with the Ukrainian engine in the first stage.  They also demonstrated they had the ability to control the trajectory of the rocket about as well as 1st ICBMs developed by the US, USSR and China.   They haven’t demonstrated command of re-entry vehicle technology, but history of ICBM development by all countries that has successfully developed ICBMs show re-entry vehicle technology never presented a serious obstacle to a country with the technical capability to manufacture a ICBM.

The fact that Kim is now willing to sit down to talk is in my eyes indisputable proof that he is entirely confident that:

1. He has a working nuclear missile that can hit the US with a nuke
2. The US has no serious doubts that he has a missile that can hit the US with a nuke.

If he had any doubts, he would have kept on testing until he had no doubts.

If he thinks the US has any doubts, he would have demonstrated a complete missile flight to remove all doubts.

He sat down to talk because he knows with his missiles having the ability to hit american homeland he now finally as a royal flush.

The last chance the US had to prevent North Korea from proceeding inexporably down the path towards having a nuclear arsenal was probably in the mid-1990s.   Since then, against a North Korea willing to let its people starve to get a nuclear missile capability and an absolutely secure internal security apparatus, A US unwilling to make war on china and unwilling to accept the blame for turning Souel into war zone really only had bluster and no real cards.      Kim keeps adding to his hand with each step in his nuclear progress.

But Kim is nonetheless astute in not stopping at each stage when he could have trumped the US, and continued until he has a royal flush so that whatever changes in circumstances affecting his country relative to regional power balance, he would still hold the high card.
