I disagree in part. I don't think she's a truly and completely terrible person, but she has proven herself to not be innocent in the game of politics.
She is on the record, and on film, touting birtherism for one thing. And not during Trump's 2016 campaign but back in 2011 when there was no presumed political advantage to her doing so. She didn't have to do that interview. She didn't have to say those things. But she did.
So she has earned some of her bad rep, it's not all coming from her association to Trump.

I'm not a big Melania fan, but looking at it in total, I'm pretty sure her jacket was a big middle finger to her husband, saying that she no longer cares what he thinks about anything.
One, she wore it ONLY in DC, knowing full well that the media would make sure it got back to DT. Two, she made sure NOT to wear it at all in Texas, where she wanted to do outreach. Three, when she got back to DC, she put the jacket back on, and walked in it right into the Oval Office, to flaunt in DT's face that she was done with toeing his line. Four, DT, likely livid, tried to spin it that she was telling off the "fake news media." That was about as believable as his other idiotic explanations. To sum up, I think her message was "You've crossed the line with child concentration camps, and I am done. I really don't care anymore about maintaining your façade." I could easily be totally wrong, of course. We'll likely know more over the next couple of weeks if we see some changes on her end.
But we are all mindreading, if you are trying to assume what this clothing statement was directed at. But she did make an effort to talk Trump out of this inhumane choice, and she did actually visit the camps. Actions speak louder than words.
I read that Trump was spinning it to say that her jacket was meant to indict the media, but who knows how true that is. In any case, even if it was intended to be aimed at the media, it was an intensely stupid fashion choice given the trip she was making and reason she was making it. But I also heard that part of the WH's political calculations is getting the non-Trumpeter public riled up in outrage over shit like this. Perhaps this is one of those distraction tactics so we're not talking about the real problems going on with this administration...
