I am a single mother of 3, I am 28, and I live in the southeastern United States. It's hard. I don't have anyone with whom I can share my thoughts, and have had people literally try to hold me down and perform an exorcism. I've had people call child protective services on me, and told them that I am worshiping Satan and performing rituals using my children. The list goes on and on, so that is why I am here. I am an atheist, and the only other atheist I knew died last year on August 30th after a 19 year battle with HIV. He was my best friend. I feel really alone on this pale blue dot. I really don't know why I haven't been here before today. Thank you all for having me.
It sounds more like you are living in somewhere like Saudi Arabia or Iran rather than the Southeastern United States. I have to give you credit for being openly atheist in a very religious society.
I am from southeastern Australia, which is a very secular society and if I were to become say like Richard Dawkins when it came to my religious beliefs (or lack therefore) few would really blink. Although I would be seen as a bit odd for being seen as fanatical perhaps, but we Aussies are notoriously laid back.

(btw, if you take back Ken Ham we might be able to do something about the amount of obnoxious tourists we send your way)
The American tourists can be obnoxious, however they don't stay for long and contribute money to the economy.
