In my country (France) if you killed your child.
Accorded to 2° of article 221-4 of code pénal (Can be translated as penal code or criminal code) you does risk life imprisonment (réclusion criminelle à perpétuité).
"Le meurtre est puni de la réclusion criminelle à perpétuité lorsqu'il est commis :
2° Sur un ascendant légitime ou naturel ou sur les père ou mère adoptifs ;"
Translation in English by myself :
"Murder is punished by criminal imprisonment for life where it is committed:
2° against a natural or legitimate ascendant or the adoptive father or mother;"
This is the maximum penalty you can face.
But in reality , it's rare to see people who killed their child being condemned to this penalty.
It's rare to see those who committed a murder against their children being condemned above 25 years of criminal imprisonment accorded to stories that I remember.
