Yes. They have reusable K cups that you fill manually. You can put loose tea leaves or coffee grounds in there and I'm quite sure you can make your own version of hot chocolate too but you generally don't need a filter for hot chocolate.

... I don't have any experience with any sort of coffee machine so as described it just sounded like a glorified kettle; heating up whatever was in the sealed cups... but clearly it does more than that, like filtering and stuff.
