I know he doesn't accept biological evolution so what is he?
He reads Genesis in such a way as to allow for the possibility of an extremely ancient creation event (billions of years ago), followed by a long period in which evolution may (or may not) have taken place. He has often written about precursors of modern, "soul-endowed" humans who were genetically human but lacked souls themselves, and he considers the story of the garden as continuing the creation account by focusing exclusively on the fate of humans at a particular period of history, when "Adam and Eve" began the time of god-breathed, ensouled people. For Drich, there is a sharp division in focus between the creation account in Genesis and the narrative of the garden, and this frequently results in threads getting sidetracked for pages because he and his interlocutors are talking past one another.
Of course, Drich is free to correct my characterization if it is wrong.
