If you were thinking it was a much shorter period of time, then it's most likely that you haven't even done a basic google search on the topic.
I consider anything changing over the course of millions of years to be a slow process, but on the scale of evolution as a whole, it happened rather quickly.
There was no more newer information during the Cambrian explosion than there is every day that a new child is born.
It's just change over time.

No, of course not. It's simply a change. I'm different from them, but all of my differences came from them.
What is seen is an explosion of new life over that time period.
It's not new life. Every creature born still had parents and were still members of the same species.
Look how quickly humans have changed over a couple hundred thousand years. Imagine the changes after a million years or 20 million years.
It's all change. New life wasn't added. It wasn't created.
