Yep, back to not voting ever again in my life. I should have stayed true to myself this year, but stupid people who think voting matters peer pressured me into voting.
I'd understand this attitude in Mississippi. But Florida??? The races were neck and neck. The answer is more democratic voters, not less. Please don't abandon your civic duty because you didn't get the result you wanted. Florida is a must vote state given how easy it is to flip if democrats come out and vote.
Rick Scott won by less than 35,000 votes in a state where over 8 million votes were cast. Thst race is winnable by either party. Believe me, there are more than 35,000 democratic voters who didn't vote in Florida yesterday. Turnout is what is important, you turned out this time, please turn out again in 2 years. More people vote in general elections than mid terms, so you are more likely to get a result you want.
However you may never get the result you want if you don't get off your ass and vote. Elections don't always go the way you want but the solution is to go and convince more people to vote with you, not abandon democracy in possibly the most swingable state in the US.
Couldn't have said it any better.
Dems problem has been since Reagan, not participating every year. That all changed with Obama, but it needs to be an every day thing in speaking out, and voting in every local election and in off year elections. If you never try you never know what you can win. Politics isn't a one time thing, it is a lifetime duty..
The good thing about America, when you compare what rights were like for minorities and women when it started, and how much America has grown to be inclusive, it is because others prior to our generation dared to challenge the status quo.
Florida most certainly is a swing state and worth fighting for. And while Texas has been historically red, it is turning purple and has even had a lesbian Mayor in one of it's cities. The key to progress is to not focus on one loss, but being on the offense long term.
Texas in 2020 is going to be even more competitive and long term it will become a swing state like Florida. And who would have thought a black woman would be neck and neck in GA regardless of what the run off does. It is still progress.
Never give up no matter what, especially now with an authoritarian bully in the WH. He can only destroy us if we give up. I will always vote and always speak out.
