Here's an interesting thought on soul making beliefs.

If the amount of pain and suffering on this rock exists as an intentional plot to make us better, then doesn't every improvement we make on this rock to alleviate that suffering make the soul mill that much less effective?  God used to teach us a lesson with polio, but then we eradicated it - is he up there cooking up some new disease to hit us with, or is he giving up?

How will we ever get our souls to the point of optimal refinement if we keep improving our earthly lives?

Other questions I have:

• What is a soul?
  
• How can it continue to exist as energy without the use of matter?
  
• When does a soul get created? At conception? Birth? After birth?
  
• Or is there a finite pool of souls or does Mr God create them on demand and insert them in a fetus?
  
• Is this automated? If not then why are souls given to a fetus before a miscarriage?
  
• What is the power source of a soul?
  
• Why can't we harvest souls for cheap energy?
  
• Why don't we remain conscious when given anesthetic?
  
• Why does brain damage result in a change of personality if who you are lives on after brain death?
  
• Is a soul eternal even though it has a beginning?
  
• How do eternal souls manage to violate the second law of Thermodynamics?
  
• Or have souls always existed? In which case why can't energy have always existed? We don't need anything more than that to explain the universe.
  
• Do other animals have souls? If so at what point do we get to something that does not have a soul?
