I have attended academic conferences which had workshops or symposiums on consciousness which attended by neuroscientists and artificial intelligentsia and we have many ideas as to why we have consciousness.
The nonsense that "they" have no idea what consciousness is, another of her lies.

My own research concurs with the following:
The synchronized vibrations of matter could provide an answer to the mystery of consciousness
I was wondering why my results keep coming back to sine waves and fourier transforms. I have some interesting results that I have been struggling to explain as part of a larger context. I need be able to do this to publish the results. But when I saw the above article posted on Facebook and read it, it all clicked. All of matter vibrates. The problem people have is that they see the brain as it currently is. They don't take into account how it has developed and why. If you consider it as part of a process that extends back to before the development of the first single celled organisms, then it starts to make sense why it's important that everything vibrates. Our sense of smell, taste, light waves, they're all made up of combinations of frequencies. So it's no wonder that neurons themselves have firing rates that change over time.
I've never seen a "problem" with consciousness.
We know it's entirely dependent on functioning brains. They have "mapped" individual functions (hearing, judgment, planning etc) to specific identified brain areas, which ... if damaged by trauma or stroke or other diseases, impair that function. Sensory inputs, rapidly referenced to memory produces what we experience as "now", (but in fact isn't "now" ... it took a few nanoseconds to "process the inputs", so it's really already "past".
Every religion is true one way or another. It is true when understood metaphorically. But when it gets stuck in its own metaphors, interpreting them as facts, then you are in trouble. - Joseph Campbell
