They wouldn't have made it up there either, who's they... the hero commanders and pilots that risked their lives trusting what those people doing their job did.

"I did it all by myself" is a myth. Nobody ever does it all by themselves. Those pilots had to have teachers long before they made the decision to risk their lives.
