Maybe the key isn't looking at the word "hero" as default winning as much as it should be a word to denote learning to extend the ride for more, not a tribe.
No, neither the Prince nor the Pauper died (well, to be fair, they did, but after the events of the novel).
The quote is 'Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing' (your Shakespeare is as pathetic as your Twain).
