Prove it. Single-celled organisms suffer and plants are more complex than that. We know that they respond to damage and that other plants respond to those, so they even communicate their suffering.

And even if plants can't suffer only cruel god would create a system were killing was necessary for survival that alone suggests a cruel god and indeed no matter how bad humans are that does not excuse natural suffering  and her comment about DNA does not help her .
