Your body goes unconscious at a certain level of pain, so death by volcano or fire probably is not as horrible as it sounds.

And yeah, we know from the survivors that dying by volcano or fire are pretty gruesome ways to go. It can be over quick if you take a direct hit from a pyroclastic flow, but barring that sort of "luck" you're in for a lingering death.

You only suffer to a certain extent and then you go unconscious from the pain. I told you- it happened to me when my appendix ruptured.
