Reminds me of the time I sat and looked/listened on as a person from Shrillanka of a Hindu persuasion engaged in discussion with another person from Nigeria of a Christian frame of mind.
Both people were using English since that was the 'Common ground'.
Listening to how their innate, native language affected their choice of words that they used/chose to illustrate ideas was fascinating to me, a (Relatively) native English user/speaker.
Nigeria has been heavily influenced by French settlers. Which added a wonderful 'Flavour' to the person's accent.
