Mate, look through the video comments. There are CHRISTIANS expressing concerns over this. I even read a story about a woman who went through something similar with purity rings, and now she struggles with the guilt and has difficulty being comfortable with sex.
I even wonder if my asexually stems from how much my parents insisted on abstinence and waiting before marriage.
So don't tell me it isn't hurting anybody.
So they can't make a decision for themselves because there are comments on a YT video? Why do they need approval from others? If they're not hurting anybody else, then no reason for anybody to get their undies in a bunch over it.
You wondering about your parents and how they treated you has nothing to do with them. You had a choice to listen or not listen. Lots of people listen and turn out fine. Lots of people don't listen and turn out fine. Why is your situation special?

Given, it may not be the norm these days, but does that make it wrong? What is wrong with their dad making a vow to protect their daughter? Is it something to be offended by? If so, why? I'm sure having a ball isn't necessary, but I can also understand why it would be useful since it adds an extra value to that vow, because it is tied to a formal event. Kinda like a dad declaring his son a "man" so he declares it during a ritual with his tribe. It gives it a feeling of being made official.
That's nice, dear, but we're discussing purity balls.
Do you understand?
Did you see me hold up a sign telling you to stop talking about purity balls? Do you understand?
