If someone breaks a promise, it's on them. Hopefully when someone makes a promise, they go out of their way to keep it.
I can only speak for myself here, but to me it's something I assume as being sacred and I don't use the word "promise" lightly. If I promise something, I'm going to go above and beyond if necessary to uphold my end. But if someone else views a promise differently, then they're going to act accordingly.
I agree with you that wonder can lead to knowledge, but not all knowledge is good knowledge. That is why wisdom is always necessary. If I know I can rob a bank without getting caught, it's up to me to make a choice. Some may do it, others wouldn't. I wouldn't, because I know it would hurt others. Others may think the same way, and others would likely rob the bank because they value the consequences differently.
