My line, which I seem to be working through, is that. If you come in with a drawing or photo and a list of parts, that is a commodity. If you ask the baker to design it for you, that is a creative product. Now yes, this means that the gay couple gets worse customer service than the straight couple, but people are assholes and I’m not sure I see a way around that.
Or you could just go to a different bakery who will take your money and treat you as you would like.
If one bakery tells me "no", then no problem. I'll drive a mile down the strip to the next one. Much quicker way to get my cake than filing with the courts and complaining about the first baker being naughty.
