did canada march there natives on a 2500 mile 'trail of tears? did canada hand out small pox infested blankets? did abraham lincoln order the largest mass execution in history of native canadians? did native canadians have all their lands stripped away? (no many tribes are selling out now to the oil companies and the government actually want's a piece of it) did canada or mexico ever went on a nazi type ethnic cleansing of the indigenous people? Do we call mexican native americans? Do they self identify as native americans, do canadian indigenous self identify as native americans or indians??? That sweet heart is the reason if no other reason existed. Because they don't see themselves as apart of US indian culture!
Answers and reasons why
1) no only the us rounded up various tribes and place them in concentration camps/jewish style ghettos to starve and cause disease them out. Some had to walk hundreds if not thousands of miles to the internment areas.
2) in the cold month infected blankets were issued to kill off as many as possible.
3) lincoln was not fan of the native american and supported the efforts for their eradication. between his policies and establishment of the corrupt indian affairs department of the government, he broke the back/will of our native people.

4) the indian affairs department was incharge of slowly and systematically take portions of land from the indians via treaties and push them further and further back till it was decided to put them in internment camps to die out or convert to civilized living.
5)we do not call native mexicans native americans. mexico is an example if whites simply were assimilated into the indigenous population, the us would be populated with english speaking tribes much like northern canada.
6)Canadian indians do not self identify as native americans as a whole they are known as 'the people" or in their collective agree terminology "Inuits" and Métis "the first people." "Indian" is the common name they choose to share with the people in the us and mexico.
And again if they see them selves as being different then who the F do you think you are to homogenize them for the sake of a stupid argument?
what kills me is you all get so offended by words you don't understand in defense of people you know little to nothing about just because how it sounds to you!
maybe rather than judging racism on what you think sounds racist... maybe look up and see what people of said race think about what is said.
Unlike 'black americans' Indians embrace their whole past even the bits where they where viewed as speaking broken english. Most people I know would say we may have sounded that way, but non of us talk that way now, and if one did and he took offense the whole 'tribe/community' would not be obligated to also be offended! If you wanted to talk in broken english and on guy took offense you'd better be bigger than him. Even with terms like redskins (team name) most (unless gentrified) most indians use the terms 'skins' to describe themselves. some would take offense if a white called them that others would not. it's not like american indians feels as if they must be a united front one every topic on a national scale, you would find most to be individuals who can think one on one and un like you are all locked into group think where one person says something is racist and all must proceed as of it were.
We had an indian family live a few streets over and LOVED!!! playing cowboys and indians with him.. While My skin was closer to his we were often the indians and his grand father made us all kinds of little feather trinkets to wear and play with, and no one ever had a cross word or evil thing to say about either people we watch the bugs bunny cartoons you all are so insane over and his family thought they were funny. to me there were no different than the mexican kids we played with at my g-pas house. they ate funny food smell funny but everyone knew how to go out into the woods and have a good time.
That's why I get pissed off when someone like you who is supposely trying to do a good thing, doesn't even know anything on how the culture works. when you compare the works history and deeds of one people and put them onto another, that can be considered one of the few collective group think/hate things you will find in said culture. a honor seeking lacota does not want to be judged as a human flesh eating crow. like wise a hunter fishermen eskimo does not want to be lumped in with raise childern as cows and eat them aztec
So again why do we not call everyone by the same name? because they themselves do not want that. even with in the US many people despise being call native americans. they want to be seen as being from this tribe or that one. to them it is more offensive to call them a native american than any 1940 saturday morning joke could ever be!
