Hey look at that, you got something right by accident.  They weren't monkeys.  They were apes, just like you are.

It may have been thought that was accurate at one time.  There is Darwin's tree of life which shows a common ancestry which he wrote about.

Nope....that's not why.  Care to try again?  I'll give you a hint.  It was a monk that figured it out, he was aware of darwins work..but darwin wasn't aware of his.
