There are those that unquestionably manipulate the fretboard better than Hendrix. Satrani, Vai, Malmsteen. And without a doubt, Buckethead. None of them however can match his monumental imagination, or his considerable innovation. Quite simply put, there is guitar work before the emergence of Hendrix, and there is guitar work after.
I think it was John Entwistle who said it best, (keep in mind I am paraphrasing) "Hendrix is not a great guitar player. Jeff Beck is a great guitar player. Clapton is a great guitar player. Hendrix, is a force of nature."
