No, it wasn't. He was committed indefinitely, and freed in japan after deportation.
To Atlas mind insanity pleas might seem like a bug of western culture, and western law enforcement..but ofc, they're a feature. In japans defense, the manner in which he eventually got out is also a feature, and not a bug...but none of that, and nothing about this story helped to advance Atlas fetish...so he just argebargled his way through a mound of bullshit that the very short link he chose to include contradicted at every point.
