So sorry to learn of your problems with arthritis. I empathise; I need a new pair of knees. Not quite bad enough yet, but It won't be a lot longer. I can still walk, but need a cane.
Rural US? Then I suspect your options are limited. The home elevator seem the most practical. You say 'split level', me too. I have only three steps dividing top and bottom. How many do you have? Would an elevator chair be practical?
