Storing gun powder. That's what it has been used for on my gun, but I haven't read the specs yet to see if that was a kosher application. I've had them for about six hours now. Powder is kept in a horn or flask so it can be poured down the barrel.
How are you going to pour out of the buttstock into the barrel? It 'd be a good trick.
The buttstock compartment is for storing patches, lube and balls.
